The Wedding

The duality of beauty and danger represented by this great commitment.

They say you’ll always remember your first love.

6 years, 9 months, 28 days is the story of the aftermath. A long journey in the dark picking up millions of pieces, shattered by 3 years of emotional abuse.

Although I started working on this painting two years before the end of my journey, it wasn’t until 3 months before completion that I realised the road it had taken me on. A cathartic road paved with memories, frustration, rage and blood.

Yes, my own blood.

This painting was in fact destined to be burnt to the ground, completing the final stage of this artistic exorcism. But although the final step is still on my mind, I’ve recently learnt to see this piece in a new, positive way: a celebration of my perseverance to believe again.

To believe in life, in love. In myself.

Yes, I’ll always remember my first love.
